Pineapple & Prosperity

The Lunar New Year Treats We’re Obsessed With

Lunar New Year is a time for family, for celebration, and for food that means something. Every dish, every treat, every flavor carries intention—wishes for health, happiness, and prosperity in the year ahead.
This year, we wanted to bring that tradition to Teas’n You. So we created two new pastries inspired by classic Lunar New Year treats, reimagined in a way that feels fresh, modern, and unmistakably us.
Meet our Pineapple Crumble Cookie and Bolo Bao Cookie.

Why Pineapple?

If you’ve ever celebrated Lunar New Year—or visited a Chinese bakery around this time—you’ve probably seen pineapple tarts. Small, buttery pastries filled with sweet pineapple jam, they’re a staple of the holiday season across many Asian cultures.

But why pineapple?

In Hokkien (a Chinese dialect spoken in Southern China, Taiwan, and throughout Southeast Asia), the word for pineapple sounds like “prosperity arriving.” Giving or eating pineapple during Lunar New Year is a way of welcoming wealth, good fortune, and abundance into your life.

It’s a fruit that means something. And we wanted to honor that.

The Pineapple Crumble Cookie

A pie-cookie hybrid that honors tradition.

Our Pineapple Crumble Cookie is inspired by the classic pineapple tart, but reimagined as something you can hold in your hand and enjoy with your afternoon tea.

Here’s what makes it special:

  • House-made pineapple jam: We cook down real pineapple into a bright, tangy filling that balances sweetness with a little tartness.

  • Buttery, tender cookie base: Think pie crust meets cookie—rich, crumbly, and melt-in-your-mouth.

  • Golden crumble topping: A crunchy, golden layer that adds texture and warmth to every bite.

The result? A pastry that tastes like celebration. It’s nostalgic for those who grew up with pineapple tarts, and a delicious discovery for those trying them for the first time.

Baked fresh daily. Limited quantities to keep that perfect pie-crust texture.

The Bolo Bao Cookie

Hong Kong’s favorite bun, in cookie form.

If you’ve ever had a bolo bao (sometimes called a pineapple bun), you know the magic: a soft, slightly sweet bread topped with a crispy, crackled crust that shatters when you bite into it. It’s a staple of Hong Kong bakeries and cha chaan tengs, beloved for its simple, comforting flavor.

Fun fact: Despite the name “pineapple bun,” traditional bolo bao doesn’t actually contain pineapple. The name comes from the pattern on top, which looks like the skin of a pineapple.

Our Bolo Bao Cookie captures everything we love about the original:

  • Soft, buttery cookie base: Tender and rich, like the bread inside a classic bolo bao.

  • Crisp, crackled topping: That signature crust that makes the original so iconic.

  • Lightly sweet finish: Comforting without being overwhelming.

It’s a handheld version of a bakery classic, perfect with a cup of Thai tea or Vietnamese coffee.

The Stories We Bake

At Teas’n You, we believe food is more than just flavor. It’s memory. It’s meaning. It’s the way a taste can transport you to your grandmother’s kitchen, a bustling night market, or a cozy bakery on a cold afternoon.

Our Lunar New Year pastries are our way of honoring the traditions we grew up with while adding our own playful twist. We’re not trying to replicate the classics, we’re reimagining them for a new generation, a new context, a new celebration.

Whether you’re celebrating Lunar New Year with family, sharing a treat with a friend, or just grabbing a cookie to brighten your Tuesday, we hope these pastries bring a little prosperity to your day.
